Viewing Multiple Emails On Your Smartphone

Wouldn’t it be easiest to check email on-the-go? From Gmail to Outlook (if you have it) you can view your email online on your smartphone. And wouldn’t it be nice to have all your tasks, due dates and appointments for the week laid out in one place that’s easily modifiable? While many of us use a physical calendar, several online email apps provide you with one you can share with others, and even allow them to edit.  This is especially helpful for work schedules or meetings.

One of the most popular apps for email on Android is the Gmail app that comes preloaded onto your phone.  However, you can add any email account from almost any service to your Gmail app and view them all together or separately. If you use the Gmail app, you’ll have a hub for all your email accounts on the go!  Previously, you had to use the generic ‘Mail’ account that came with your Android or use a third-party app from the App Store if you wanted to view other emails but, in 2017, Gmail became compatible with all IMAP email addresses and accounts.

Adding accounts to the Gmail app is very simple: Tap the ‘hamburger’ menu on the top left of your Gmail screen, then scroll down through the options to the bottom and tap on ‘Settings.’ Once there, you will see ‘General Settings,’ separate options for any of the email accounts you have on the app already, and the option to ‘Add Account.’

For a Gmail, Outlook/Hotmail/Live, Yahoo!, or Exchange/Office 365 account and others, you simply select the correct option and add your email and password on the appropriate screens. You may also be asked to verify your email address or accept privacy or user agreements. For email accounts other than Gmail, Gmail will ask permission to access your email address.

To remove an account, you will:

  • Select that account on the ‘Settings’ screen, tap the three dots in the upper right corner and tap ‘Manage Accounts,’ which will take you to your phone’s account management option
  • Select the correct account option (Google or Personal)
  • Select the correct account
  • Tap the three dots in the upper right once again then tap “Remove Account”
